TRAIL is the heartbeat of the network — earned by participation, never sold. Walkers earn it for every walk and every dog in their pack. Dog parents earn it every time their dog hits the trail. It cannot be bought on this platform; it can only be earned on it.

The Founder

David Sluys

Surfer, builder, canine sherpa. Learned the trade walking for one of LA's legendary pack operations — 4,574 walks under a mentor's banner — then founded Compass Dogs in 2018 and walked 49,187 more under his own. He kept records of all of it, and the record became the company.

2015

The trail-crew years

First walk: January 29. Four years walking for one of the great LA pack companies, learning from the best — 4,574 walks, half rates, full education.

2018

Started independent with his mentor's blessing. First FreshBooks invoice June 14. Volume tripled within the year.

2020–21

The peak

7,610 dog-walks in a single year — a full trail-crew career ×1.66, at full rates, through a pandemic.

2024

The software begins

First programmatic billing: a real database, Stripe payments, Twilio notifications — built in-house, billing real clients from day one.

2026

The ledger is proven

The entire decade reconstructed and verified — records, dogs, eras, billing. The archive becomes the database; the database becomes the truth layer.

Now

Opening the trails

The platform opens to more walkers and their packs — each building their own record, earning as they go. The story continues.
